President and Sister Nye

On May 1, 2020 President and Sister Nye receive the Mission President's Keys from the Mutombos and officially began their service as leaders of the Maryland Baltimore Mission.

Greetings to all who follow the Maryland Baltimore Mission. My wife, Jan, and I have been called as Mission Leaders of this wonderful mission. We are excited to begin our service today. I cannot put into words on how humbled and honored we are to serve the Lord and to be called to the Maryland Baltimore Mission. We thank President Mutombo for his inspired service and pray for him in his new calling.

I included a picture of our family. Sorry, I'm not one of the handsome young men standing in the back. I'm the old guy sitting in front. We have 6 children by birth and 4 more by marriage. We have 4 grandchildren and one due May 19.

We look forward to the joy of service and the warmth of the relationships that will be developed. We love our Savior and sing the song of redeeming love. We commit our lives to Him, and the missionaries, members, and people of this great mission.

Covid Miracle in Front Royal, Virginia

Elder Carr and Elder Shupe in Front Royal

We were on a walk this afternoon after lunch. It started off with us just walking down a street and we saw a lady on her knees with her stuff around her. We knew that we aren't supposed to really talk to people at this time during our quarantine but both of us got a really strong prompting that we needed to talk to this lady.

She was crying and kind of just trying to rearrange all her stuff that was food amongst her backpack and her bag. We spoke up and said hello to her. She looked up, said hi and you could tell that she was going through a hard time. We asked her how she was doing and if there was anything that we could do. She said just pray for her, she said she wasn't doing too well because she had just lost her son. We both noticed the hospital band on her wrist so we knew that her son had just passed.

We expressed our remorse for her and that we know that couldn't have been easy at all and asked her name. Her name was Kielly. We offered the prayer and continued to talk to her after it and asked her a few questions. She said that she was walking back from the hospital and she knelt and prayed to God to send someone to help. That was the second time she had prayed in her life. When she looked up she saw us. The spirit was so strong as she told us these things.

We asked Kielly what she knew of Jesus Christ and she told us that she hadn't been religious at all throughout her life. She's never been to church. Two months ago she came to know that God was real and that Jesus Christ lived and died on the cross for us. We talked about our experiences and bore brief testimonies of how we know that God is there and Jesus Christ lives and loves each of us and how because of him that we will all live again how she will be with her son again after this life. That she can have her family be eternal.

She knew what we were saying was true and throughout our conversation you could see the peace and strength she was getting exponential growing. That you could see how she was truly happy knowing she can see her son again. We were able to grab her number so we can continue to talk to her and she said how she wanted to talk to us more about everything. How she has a lot to learn and she wanted us to come by and we can talk more.

We know that there are people that are ready to hear the gospel and God has been preparing. He will lead us to them and he will lead them to us. Keep up the great work Elders and Sisters, we know miracles will come of it.

Covid Miracles in Hagerstown, Maryland

Hermana Peterson & Trapp!

•On April 10, we had the world wide fast. It was so amazing to see how many of our friends were willing to join us, even if we barely mentioned it. Miss. H joined, and she said she would invite her friends and family. Christine joined us, but can't medically skip food. So she was willing to participate by giving something else up! Ethel & Phil also joined us in the fast!

•Ethel: the Tuesday before quarantine we met her after our district counsel. She was waiting at the bus stop, across the street from the church building! We didnt have a car, and had been waiting at the church for a few minutes. If we hadn't left right then, and had to walk, we never would have met her. We went to her house one time before quarantine! She has also invited her husband and daughter to join our lessons! We've had at least one, if not two lessons a week with them, while in quarantine.

•Angel: we had a church tour with her before quarantine, but only one other lesson. She was super super hard to get in contact with. She just wouldn't respond, or answer her phone. Once quarantine started we have had DAILY contact with her!! For weeks we would read the Book of Mormon together, everynight. We asked her to pray about it. She prayed 3 times!! She then told us, she knows that the Book of Mormon is true! Her mother passed away a few years ago, and that has still be very hard for her. Hna Peterson lost her mom in 2018, so Angel has really trusted us, and been very willing to talk about her mom. Hna Peterson's mom, and Angel's mom, both have many things in common. Lots of little miracles. One day Angel posted about how her mom loves lilacs. Hna Petersons mom also loves them!! Angel brought some over to our apt. Little miracles bring her closer and closer to us.

•Bibles: Hna Peterson & Trapp posted La Santa Biblia on facebook marketplace. We've had over 90 conversations about the Bible, and over 2900 views on the ad! Many of the people have lived out of our mission, but we just are spreading the wealth. One person, named Doug, messaged us and asked if we spoke English (the ad was in Spanish), and if we had a Book of Mormon! We also met our new friends, Jassmine, Rosa, and Leonel! We are getting ready to put Leonel on date. All from a simple Bible ad! The ones out of our mission have also been having a lot of success as well!

Covid Miracles in West York, Pennsylvania

Elder Torres and Elder Jensen (in the West York Ward) have had an amazing miracle during this quarantine!! At the beginning of the lockdown, we started teaching two awesome friends. They live with some members of the ward, and are originally from China. They have been married for a couple months, and they were able to be baptized this Saturday! Only a select few individuals were able to attend, so we held the service over a Zoom video call! The spirit was still so strong and it was an amazing experience. We know that the Lord continues to gather Israel, even if we are stuck inside!!

Covid Quarantine Miracles in Hanover, Pennsylvania

In the 4 weeks of quarantine, we have received 7 referrals. Many of these referrals are seeking to learn more about God. We have only managed to contact a couple of them, but they just keep coming! We are so excited to contact all of our referrals!

We have also been doing some finding on Facebook! We found a couple of people who showed interest in downloading the Book of Mormon app, so we sent them a private message and a link to the Book of Mormon app!

We were able to see a really cool miracle with someone we are teaching. His name is Darren. Darren had texted us a week or so ago to tell us that he wasn't interested anymore, but we kept praying that his heart would be softened and that he would be ready to receive the missionaries again.
Today we got in contact with Darren and he was able to talk to one of our members and now he wants to meet with us again! He and his fiancee, who we are also teaching are praying about a date to be married and are going to work it out with our bishop so they can work on being baptized!
