Charles Town Sisters Spiritual Experience

Wednesday, July 18th, 2018

Charles Town,  West Virginia

Sister Bohman and Sister Zappala

The new missionary meeting was held in Frederick Maryland. We were able to practice our teaching skills and learn how to more fully teach in unity. We learned so much from Assistant Elder Stone and Assistant Elder Patterson from their breakouts and from President Mutombo's instructions as well. That night, we were going along with our plans and while we were deciding where to go, we saw a couple sitting outside of their house. Even though we had scheduled plans, we decided to follow that spiritual prompting and go talk to them. As it turned out, they already had great faith in Jesus Christ. We related with them the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We explained simply the restoration as well as the Book of Mormon - in the order that the spirit directed. We taught in unity and listened to how the spirit wanted us to teach the message of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we listen, Stan and Leslie opened up about who they are.  We briefly touched on temples and how they could be sealed. As we read sections of the introduction, they said they felt chills and we testify that it was the spirit confirming truth to them. We invited them to be baptized if they came to know that this was all true, and they said absolutely! We then committed them to be baptized in the second weekend of August and they said they accepted! What a miracle as we listened to the spirit and applied what we learned!

Baseball Phenom from Dominican Republic Passes on $700K to Serve Mission

Marcelino Leonardo remembers the first scripture he ever memorized. And why wouldn’t he? As a poor, 8-year-old boy on the sun-scorched streets of the Dominican Republic, he was the kind of kid who adored Primary almost as much as he loved playing ball.
It was during those early days in church that he was introduced to 1 Nephi 3:7.
“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”
...

One day a dear friend and baseball guru in Salt Lake City, Ernso Pierre, asked Leonardo to hop on the train and to meet him downtown. Pierre knew a scout who wanted to become acquainted with the young star.

After the typical small talk and schmoozing, the scout slid a thick stack of papers across the table and was offered an opportunity to collect $700,000 payday.

The easiest answer would have been, “Yes! You got a pen?”

Instead, another answer stirred inside him. His decision hadn’t come in a flash or singular, spiritual event. It came over time, line upon line, precept upon precept.

Moments later, Pierre turned to him and asked the question that changed Leonardo’s story forever. “Marcelino, do you want to play baseball or do you want to go on a mission?”

Faster than the speedy middle infielder can turn a double play, Leonardo gave the answer years in the making: “Mission first. Then college. Then baseball.”

As fast as he’d answered, the scout slid the contract back to his side of the table and with it, more money than Leonardo had ever imagined.

But neither the scout nor his friend were disappointed. Both men expressed support and praised his desire to serve the Lord and get an education. “I knew I needed to go,” Leonardo told me. “The Lord keeps His promises when we put Him number one. And I knew He was calling me! I wondered, how many of His children might be blessed if I went on a mission? Mostly me!”

Just a few months later, Leonardo accepted a call to serve in Baltimore.

Amanda Collins Baptism in Braddock Heights

This is Amanda Collins and she is from Gabon, Africa. Amanda is a the mom of five kids and basically the coolest human alive. When we (Sisters Jensen and Fabis) first met her, her life was falling apart and she told us that she knew the gospel was for her family she just didn't know where to start. We met with her on and off, and promised her blessings as she came to church and read. It was so amazing because every time she put her faith in God and miracles happened out of thin air. Her testimony grew so much, especially on the Plan of Salvation and atonement of Jesus Christ. Whenever we would ask her questions, she would say she would pray about it and tell us the next day. She is literally the definition of how to gain personal revelation! Her baptism was so amazing. Elder Smith was able to come back to baptize her (he Initially found her) and also Sister Fabis who taught her as well. Sister Jensen and Sister Grover helped her make it to that wonderful day.
July 7, 2018, Amanda was baptized. It was amazing. After she got out of the font, she kept repeating "I can feel it." After that she just glowed, and her testimony is so strong. WE LOVE AMANDA SO MUCH. She told us it was now her mission to help her family get there as well.

Rose received a witness of the truth of the Gospel and The Book of Mormon shortly after meeting with the missionaries.  She had read most of 1st Nephi before her second meeting with the sisters.  Her non-member mother attended her baptism and felt the Spirit there.
